Entry to the exhibition area can be seen in the top picture where many features of 19th century Lowestoft are set out on attractively designed pictorial displays.

Moving through this area a very fine collection of Ship Builders models is set out in illuminated cabinets.  They range from early fishing vessels from the age of sail, on through to high tech Diesel powered research and military vessels of the 20th century.  Offset from this gallery is a new darkened space with seating where video recordings can be selected for display. Indeed much more.......

The Princess Royal clearly has an extensive knowledge of all things maritime and in how to present it to the public: Colin greatly enjoyed discussing it all and too quickly the time came to move on to unveiling the plaque (please click red link).

Princess Royal

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal arrived by helicopter to open the latest extension of Lowestoft Maritime Museum on the 12th May 2010, a fine Spring day we had all keenly anticipated.

The Princess Royal was accompanied by  her Lady in Waiting and  the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, William Kendall, see photo above left. They were greeted on arrival by the Mayor and Mayoress and Vice-Chairman Colin Dixon. Inside the museum, Colin introduced the guests to Chairman Peter Parker and went on to take them on a tour of the completely re-designed  interior.
