Unveiling the Plaque

The picture above has the perfect backdrop of the lighthouse and 'Sparrows Nest' park showing the marquee for the reception set on a pristine bowling green beside the museum, while guests prepare for the arrival of HRH The Princess Royal.

After viewing the museum, the Princess was escorted to the marquee where Vice Chairman Jim Aguss presented members and other guests to her,  see bottom picture. The Princess spent some time talking with each of them before being asked by Chairman Peter Parker to unveil the marble plaque commemorating today's celebration, see picture right.

This was a proud moment long awaited, and the Princess congratulated all concerned on their achievements and recalled that her father HRH The Duke of Edinburgh had opened a previous extension.

Altogether a very happy event and pretty Ruthie Evans gracefully presented the Princess with a posy of white roses and ivory freesias, see picture right.

The sun was high and it was already time for HRH The Princess Royal to leave us with a remarkable signature in our Visitor's Book.

Immediately, and with great care, the marble plaque was fixed in a prepared place within the entrance to the new extension, not far from a similar plaque commemorating HRH the Duke of Edinburgh's visit in 1978.
